Salsa
Salsa dance originated in Cuba in the 1800’s as an evolution of other Latin styles. It became popular in America when bands from Puerto Rico, Colombia, and the Dominican Republic traveled New York, sharing their music. The dance style is similar to mambo, but features more intricate turn patterns. Buried within these are style elements from the Merengue, Cha Cha, and Cumbia. Salsa is thus an energetic, upbeat amalgamation of all the best parts of Latin dance.
